5 Successful Equity Crowdfunding Startups on Indiegogo

Indiegogo teamed up with MicroVentures in November 2016 to bring equity crowdfunding to its users.

On January 24 2017, Indiegogo announced that since they launched equity crowdfundingon their portal called First Democracy VC, their first five offering companies have raised a combined total of approximately $1.4 million from Indiegogo’s community of backers.

If that’s not enough, Indiegogo and MicroVentures have just launched a second batch of offerings! Let’s take a look at the startups who have successfully used equity crowdfunding on Indiegogo so far, and learn a little about these exciting new offerings.

Funded Campaigns

1. Texas Ζebo

Category: Restaurant & Beverage

Goal: $100K – $500K

Funding raised: $123,575

Number of investors: 159

The Texas Ζebo team manages two restaurants: Halcyon Coffee + Bar + Lounge and Stella Public House. Halcyon is a dynamic space that makes a comfy coffee house during the day and a laid-back bar at night. These two locations averaged $2.3 million in revenue in 2015, and now the team has secured leases to open two new locations.

2. ArtCraft Entertainment

Category: Gaming

Goal: $150K – $1M

Funding raised: $668,997

ArtCraft Entertainment is using equity crowdfunding for their new Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, or MMORPG, Crowfall. This uniquely designed game is referred to as a “Throne War Simulator”, where thousands of players are fighting for control of a virtual throne. Crowfall offers gamers something exciting and different from the typical MMO experience.

3. Play Impossible

Play Impossible is an active gaming system that lets you turn your backyard into a video game. This system works with Play Impossible’s Gameball™, a mobile-connected ball for indoor and outdoor use. The multi-sport ball connects with iOS and Android app to provide players with fun, interactive games designed for children ages 5 through 15.

4. Republic Restoratives

Category: Distillery

Republic Restoratives is an urban distillery and craft cocktail bar in Washington, D.C. Fun fact: Republic Restoratives is also the only woman-owned distillery in D.C. This location opened in May 2016 and quickly gained popularity. Republic Restoratives was voted “Best Distillery in D.C.” by Washington Post readers, and now they have turned to equity crowdfunding to help support their growth.

5. BeatStars

Category: Social Media

BeatStars is a social marketplace designed to enable music collaboration and distribution. The BeatStars platform lets artists share full songs as well as sell, collaborate, and share parts of songs like lyrics and vocals. 1. “Field Guide to Evil”

“Field Guide to Evil” is the much-anticipated follow-up movie from the creators of the ABCs of Death series. This movie explores myths, lore, and folktales that have frightened society for years and is being worked on by some of today’s most talented genre filmmakers. This first equity film campaign on Indiegogo recently launched at the Sundance Film Festival.

2. The Grilled Cheese Truck

Category: Restaurant & Beverage

Goal: $50K – $1M

Funding raised: $22,756

The Grilled Cheese Truck is a food truck that sells, you guessed it, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. After having success with their initial food trucks, Big Cheese Inc. wants to expand domestically and internationally with “micro-stores”, “pop-ups”, and more food trucks. So far, their seasonal and innovative grilled cheese creations have earned them spots on several “Best of” lists.

Conclusion.

In only two months, Indiegogo has already shown that they can be a strong contender in the equity crowdfunding marketplace. They have already helped five startups reach their funding goals, with two new offerings that just launched this week. Three of the offerings featured in this post are still open to investors.
